Scenario
Sammy is overwhelmed with the stress of planning his grad trip. She is juggling everyone’s timelines, preferences, and budget, all while jumping from her Calendar to AirBnb, Maps to iMessage. Once she finds flights, housing, and activities, Sammy doesn’t have a single platform to combine all of her research.
Problem Statement
Co-Travel aims to ease the stress of planning a vacation, without the burden falling on one single person.

Theme
Because planning is often stressful, this color scheme evokes feelings of peace and tranquility.
With these colors, I introduce an adventurous tone to a calming environment. The peachy hue on the left is the foundation of Co-travel’s logo and draws the user’s attention to important buttons on the app. The dark purple shade replaces the harshness of black text, while the two middle neutral colors add subtle complexity to the background. This look achieves a playful— yet sophisticated— color scheme for the travel app.
Visual accessibility and easy navigation were carefully considered.
Concept Pitch
I used a modified six-column grid and followed my chosen theme when creating this slide deck. Pitching this concept to my peers helped me gain feedback to reiterate my designs.

Introducing Co-Travel. An app to bring together all your research, all your friends, all your experiences. Co-Travel will minimize the stress of coordinating with other people, researching on different platforms, to make vacations what they should be… easy.
Users will be able to easily access their master calendar and interactive map, while easily sharing their itinerary with friends and family.
Reflection
To visually communicate user flows, I carefully used line weight and color to draw attention to highlighted features. Directing eye movement in this way allowed me explore the intricacies of visual hierarchy. Additionally, using a set of rules and contracts for a consistent design system forced me to make deliberate choices: asking myself why pick this color scheme, why this composition, this type, or framework…
Working on Co-Travel allowed me delve into UI to understand visual hierarchies, explore user flows, and create consistent visual worlds.
